I'm just like you. And that's okay!


I created Average Jane Runs for those of us stuck in the middle. We’re not elite runners, we’re not couch potatoes. We’re everyday folks who have maybe always dreamt of being gazelle-like creatures running effortlessly down the path flaunting our midriffs and long, lean legs…but then chuckle really hard and throw on a baggy shirt and compression shorts to go plodding on our way. And you know what? That’s okay! I, for one, am happy plodding along. I know I’m out there taking care of my body and doing something I love.

I also know that I’m not alone. I began running in 2005 and completed my first 5K in 2006. What hooked me was realizing that I, the always 150-lb-plus and notsomuch graceful gal, could actually run (and not die). What kept me going was that first 5K. I expected to see the gazelles. I expected to feel out of place. What I saw were runners of all shapes, sizes, and ages. What I felt was part of something. For the first time in my life, I felt like an athlete.

I’ve always had a difficult time believing that I was a Real Runnerâ„¢. I want this site to convince you that all it takes to be a Real Runnerâ„¢ is that you put your feet on the ground and run. I want you to know that you’re not alone. You can be average and still be an athlete.
